KENTUCKY-TENNESSEE WATER ENVIRONMENT
ASSOCIATION AWARDS

Award nominations are due May 1. Please submit pictures (individual) and logos (facility) with your application.

*Control Authority Pretreatment Excellence Award:
Nominations are requested for the Control Authority Pretreatment Excellence Award. One city or utility district from Tennessee and one city or utility district from Kentucky will receive this award at the annual meeting in July. Anyone can nominate a control authority (CA) for the award. In order to be considered, the CA must have an approved pretreatment program, not be under any pretreatment-related order, and not have received a pretreatment-related NOV in the previous year. Those nominated should have the basic pretreatment fundamentals covered, and special consideration will be given to those that have gone above and beyond the requirements or have had to overcome larger than normal hurdles. *Golden Manhole Award:
Recognizes individuals- one from Kentucky and one from Tennessee- who have dedicated their careers to the wastewater collection field and have made outstanding contributions in the area of wastewater collection systems. *Industrial Pretreatment Award:
Given to industries within a collection system for the outstanding performance in the pretreatment of industrial wastewater. Plant operators may nominate up to two industries per year. The exact qualifications for the award are left up to the individual plant operator to establish, but discharge compliance with a pretreatment permit and/or local limits should be a consideration. *S. Leary Jones Achievement Award:

Established in 1990 as a special recognition of many years of dedicated service to the Kentucky/Tennessee Water Environment Association and/or to the field of environmental engineering. It is looked upon as the KY/TN WEA Hall of Fame honor and named after its first recipient. Nominations should be submitted to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Selection committee shall consist of the Awards Committee Chair, the past President and the two most recent SLJ recipients.

 

*Operational Excellence Award:
Presented to publicly owned and industrial wastewater treatment facilities who have achieved permit compliance during the previous calendar year by having no more than one violation of their NPDES permit. Each qualifying facility must present written documentation and the appropriate state agency will be asked to confirm the applicantís overall regulatory compliance. *Outstanding Overflow Abatement Project:
Recognizes projects- one in Kentucky and one in Tennessee- that improved water quality by controlling wet weather overflows through the separation of storm and sanitary sewers, the transmission of wet weather wastewater to the wastewater treatment plant, the construction of facilities to treat the wet weather flow, the diversion of stormwater around a combined sewer system, monitoring or modeling overflows to characterize their impact, or other wet weather control measures. *Outstanding Watershed Management Project
Recognizes projects- one in Kentucky and one in Tennessee- that improved water quality by controlling non-point sources through the installation of best management practices, bio-engineering, pollution prevention, or the use of technology to map, identify, or quantify sources of pollution. *Beneficial Use of Biosolids
Recognizes projects - one in Kentucky and one in Tennessee - that have demonstrated outstanding management of their biosolids treatment and disposal process, particularly with regards to the beneficial reuse of the process by-products. *Beneficial Reuse of Effluent Water

*Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers (5S):
